Kerala the ‘God’s Own country’ also known as the land of ‘Kera’s (coconuts), was considered to be a gift of Parasurama. Parasurama was the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Kerala got its status of state in 1956 by combining Travancore, Cochin and Malabar regions. Hence if we look into the history of Kerala we will have to follow the history of these three regions. Spread in an area of 38,863 sq. Kms is one of the southernmost state of India. Its capital city is Thruvananthapuram and mainly spoken language is Malayalam. On its west we have Arabian sea and on eastern side we have Western Ghats.

In tourist point of view Kerala is considered to be serene and people love coming to this place for relaxation. Whether of beaches of Kovalam or Varkala, backwaters of Vembanad lake, wildlife of Periyar, hills with tea gardens in Munnar and Waynad, purchasing of spices or Kathakali dance performance in Cochin, celebration of Onam or Ayurveda of Kerala everything attracts tourist.

Kerala welcomes Monsoon twice in an year first in May and June and then in October and November. It is advisable to wear light tropical clothing.

Kerala is just 1.03% of total area of India, its length is 574 kms north to south and width is 125 kms only. It is tough to find so many tourist spot and attractions in such a small area. Road transport is the best way to travel in Kerala as the road network is pretty good and through roads it will be easier for tourist to peek in the interiors of Kerala.
